Use our supplied hardware - plug and play!
Devices you purchase through us are provisioned with your account details automatically, and are ‘plug and play’ - no need for any additional setup! The pre-programmed Wi-Fi network and Wi-Fi password are recorded on a sticker on the back of the device.
BYO router connection settings
To connect to Pentanet using your own hardware, you’ll just need to configure your equipment for a PPPoE
type WAN connection. Leave any connection fields labelled ‘service name’ blank.
Pentanet services are IPv6 dual-stacked and IPv6 should always be enabled for the best and most complete experience. For more information, please see this help centre article on IPv6.
For more information about BYO routers, including support information, please see this article on BYO hardware support.
Authentication details
Not sure of your authentication details? Your PPPoE username and password will be provided to you during your account creation and can also be viewed in the customer portal. Your username is generally formatted as firstname.lastname@pentanet.com.au
, and your PPPoE password is an automatically-generated phrase. While we can change this on request, we recommend that you do not use a password you’ve used before.
Note that your service's PPPoE username and password cannot be used to log in to the customer portal, or vice-versa.
DNS settings
Your router should automatically retrieve your DNS settings, so we recommend leaving DNS on 'automatic'. For troubleshooting purposes, here are the DNS servers that are provided:
Primary: 121.200.47.242
Secondary: 121.200.47.245
For help configuring your router to use these DNS settings, please consult your user manual.
Using 3rd Party DNS (Google, OpenDNS, CloudFlare, Quad9..)
You're free to use a 3rd party DNS service, but note that we have observed this can occasionally cause issues with certain streaming providers or content delivery networks (CDNs), who can use the network location of the DNS resolver (rather than you!) to decide what location they will serve you content from, resulting in content served to you from unusual locations. For this reason, we recommend using our DNS server/s where possible.
Email account settings and webspace
At this time, we do not offer email or web space/web hosting - there are many cheap or free services available for both web and email hosting and for now, we’re focussed on offering reliable, fast and great value internet connectivity.
