What are the settings for my connection? (email, DNS, authentication)

  • Updated

Use our supplied hardware - plug and play!

The basic Wi-Fi modem/routers that we provide for all new accounts are provisioned with your account details automatically, and are ‘plug and play’ - no need for any additional setup! The pre-programmed Wi-Fi network and Wi-Fi password are recorded on a sticker on the back of the device.

BYO router connection settings

To connect to Pentanet using your own router, you’ll just need to configure your equipment for a PPPoE type connection (using authentication type CHAP, MSCHAP V1 or MSCHAP V2). Leave any connection fields labelled ‘service name’ blank.

For more information about BYO routers, including support information, please see this article: https://kb.pentanet.com.au/faq/byo-router.

Authentication details

Not sure of your authentication details? Your PPPoE username and password will be provided to you during your account creation and can also be viewed in the customer portal. Your username is generally formatted as firstname.lastname@pentanet.com.au, and your PPPoE password is an automatically-generated phrase. While we can change this on request, we recommend that you do not use a password you’ve used before.

Note that if you create an account in our customer portal (https://my.pentanet.com.au) then for security reasons, the username and password you use to log in to the customer portal will be set when you first register for a portal account.

DNS settings

Your router should automatically retrieve your DNS settings, which is our recommended setting unless you intend to use 3rd party DNS services (such as OpenDNS or Google DNS). For troubleshooting purposes, here are the DNS servers we automatically give out and recommend using:

Primary: 121.200.47.242
Secondary: 103.89.83.249

For help configuring your router to use these DNS settings, please consult your user manual.

Email account settings and webspace

At this time, we do not offer email or web hosting - there are many cheap or free services available for web and email hosting and for now, we’re concentrating on offering reliable, fast and great value internet connectivity with no lock-in or costly frills.
